Description
A magnificent white on solid blue Wedgwood Jasperware Apotheosis of Virgil wall plaque. Designed by John Flaxman in 1787, this plaque is marked Wedgwood R, Made in England, PH and 90. Therefore manufactured after 1975.
The plaque depicts Virgil standing on a podium and holding a manuscript. On the right is a figure in flight who is placing a laurel wreath on his head, and a seated female figure in profile observing the scene, on the left is a winged figure in flight, arm extended holding a laurel wreath, and a seated female figure observing the scene, playing a lyre.
Condition
The plaque, frame and glass are in very good condition. This plaque has been framed with glass.
